If you have not been eating a lot of fiber, you need to add fiber slowly to your diet, especially if you add it by using bran of any type. Increase your use of bran or oats over a couple of weeks.

If you add fiber to your diet with fruits and vegetables, you can add them freely without many problems. However, since your stomach will not be used to it, you may experience more gas for a week or two.

Avoid the following foods:

The foods that you need to avoid or minimize are those that lack fiber.  When you eat foods that lack fiber, your stools will be hard and difficult to pass through your colon.  This will cause you to push and strain during a bowel movement.  This is how hemorrhoids are created. So reduce the use of the following foods.

  • Alcohol
  • Saturated Fats
  • Animal products
  • Red meat
  • Package food
  • Dairy products
  • Fast food products
  • Chili Peppers – It has been found that when you eat a lot of chili peppers that you can get a burning sensation in the rectum or anus. It is best to avoid eating too many peppers, especially if you have an advance case of hemorrhoids. Peppers are actually good for blood circulation and for healing ulcer. It is always the excess that creates problems in your body. So, don’t avoid chili peppers if you like them.
